Summary

Bestselling author S。A。 Chakraborty’s acclaimed Daevabad Trilogy gets expanded with this new compilation of stories from before, during, and after the events of The City of Brass, The Kingdom of Copper, and The Empire of Gold, all from the perspective of characters both beloved and hated, and even those without a voice in the novels。 The River of Silver gathers material both seen and new—including a special coda fans will need to read—making this the perfect complement to those incredible novels。

A prospective new queen joins a court whose lethal history may overwhelm her own political savvy…

An imprisoned royal from a fallen dynasty and a young woman wrenched from her home cross paths in an enchanted garden…

A pair of scouts stumble upon a secret in a cursed winter wood that will turn over their world…

Now together in one place, these stories of Daevabad enrich a world already teeming with magic and wonder。 From Manizheh’s first steps towards rebellion to adventures that take place after The Empire of Gold, this is a must-have collection for those who can’t get enough of Nahri, Ali, and Dara and all that unfolded around them。

*3。5Do not read this as a prequel there are spoilers for the whole trilogy。I wanted more Ali and Nahri because it felt like they were secondary characters in a series where they are MCs。 I know we got 3 books with them but I deserved more。 If you are curious about Manizeh and Muntadir this is the book for you。 We get more of their thoughts。 I would never tell anyone to not read it because this is my favourite series of all time and will defend it will all my breath。The last story glued my heart *3。5Do not read this as a prequel there are spoilers for the whole trilogy。I wanted more Ali and Nahri because it felt like they were secondary characters in a series where they are MCs。 I know we got 3 books with them but I deserved more。 If you are curious about Manizeh and Muntadir this is the book for you。 We get more of their thoughts。 I would never tell anyone to not read it because this is my favourite series of all time and will defend it will all my breath。The last story glued my heart together and will become a comfort read for me。 。。。more

** I received a copy from netgalley/the publisher for an honest review**In my opinion I don’t believe this was totally needed。 I felt some of the tales were good and I’m glad I read them but for the rest I just felt they were not needed。 Still overall this was a good book。 The writing was fantastic as always and I really appreciated the author explaining when each tale took place and whether or not it was spoiling anything

Alizayd al Qahtani you will always be famous 💗🥰💘💝😘💕I love these characters so damn much 🥹 It was so comforting being back in their world and being in their heads again, it makes me want to drop everything and reread the entire series。 I can't express my adoration for Nahri and Ali, my children deserve the best - even my sad tragic boy Dara。 It was great to get more background on characters we never got to meet in the main series too。 The Duriya chapter was one of my favourites。 That final Nahri Alizayd al Qahtani you will always be famous 💗🥰💘💝😘💕I love these characters so damn much 🥹 It was so comforting being back in their world and being in their heads again, it makes me want to drop everything and reread the entire series。 I can't express my adoration for Nahri and Ali, my children deserve the best - even my sad tragic boy Dara。 It was great to get more background on characters we never got to meet in the main series too。 The Duriya chapter was one of my favourites。 That final Nahri chapter though。。。nobody touch me rn I am fragile。 If you haven't already read the Daevabad trilogy this is your sign because what the hell are you waiting for?!?! 。。。more

I absolutely loved being back in Daevabad, and those two scenes at the end absolutely killed me。。。 I WANT MORE!It was great to see some more of the characters that we've grown to love throughout the Daevabad trilogy, especially from some of the characters who weren't necessarily POV characters throughout the original trilogy! I received an ARC of this book through a giveaway here on Goodreads。 I enjoyed reading the stories in The River of Silver。 It was great to read one more book with characters I loved from the series, and gain insight on characters we didn't get to meet in the main series。 I would highly recommend this book to those who enjoyed the books in the Daevabad Trilogy。 I received an ARC of this book through a giveaway here on Goodreads。 I enjoyed reading the stories in The River of Silver。 It was great to read one more book with characters I loved from the series, and gain insight on characters we didn't get to meet in the main series。 I would highly recommend this book to those who enjoyed the books in the Daevabad Trilogy。 。。。more

The Daevabad series has a special place in my heart, and I was beyond thrilled to read The River of Silver。 The stories within The River of Silver are a wonderful complement to the series。 In chronological order, we are taken back to Daevabad, complete with spoiler warnings for each story and a timeline of when each scene took place。It was glorious to return to this world。 This collection added so much depth and gave a behind-the-scenes look that we weren’t privy to before。If you’ve read and lov The Daevabad series has a special place in my heart, and I was beyond thrilled to read The River of Silver。 The stories within The River of Silver are a wonderful complement to the series。 In chronological order, we are taken back to Daevabad, complete with spoiler warnings for each story and a timeline of when each scene took place。It was glorious to return to this world。 This collection added so much depth and gave a behind-the-scenes look that we weren’t privy to before。If you’ve read and loved this series as much as I have, or even if you’re making your way through the series now, The River of Silver is a wonderful companion read。Special thanks to Harper Voyager and NetGalley for the ARC。 All thoughts in this review are honest and my own。 。。。more

Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Voyager, and SA Chakraborty for providing me with an eARC of this book。 This is my honest review。-To be very transparent, this is less of a coherent review and more of a blubbering, fangirling session 😂 The Daevabad trilogy is one of my favorite fantasy series of all time, so reading the River of Silver felt like coming home。 I had already read some of the stories included here, but I honestly didn’t even mind。 I missed this world and these characters so much! I love the rich world Chakraborty created in her Daevabad trilogy and it was so wonderful to revisit in this collection of short stories。 Many of these stories provided a wonderful view into the minds and feelings of some of the interesting but less developed characters。 I particularly liked Manizheh, Hatset, Jamshid, and Zaynab's stories。 I struggled to remember the context of these stories。 Because the world is so rich, there are so many characters, and so much happens in each book, the short I love the rich world Chakraborty created in her Daevabad trilogy and it was so wonderful to revisit in this collection of short stories。 Many of these stories provided a wonderful view into the minds and feelings of some of the interesting but less developed characters。 I particularly liked Manizheh, Hatset, Jamshid, and Zaynab's stories。 I struggled to remember the context of these stories。 Because the world is so rich, there are so many characters, and so much happens in each book, the short intro to each chapter wasn't enough to place the story into the larger events of the books。 I struggled to remember exactly what was happening at the same time。 A more detailed intro would have been helpful。 I think the author was trying to warn readers of spoilers but there should have just been a blanket "don't read this if you haven't read the rest" disclaimer at the beginning then a longer description to properly set context for each story。 If I had just read the books, it might not have been such a problem, but it has been over 6 months since I finished Empire of Gold。 。。。more

”Daevabad had seemed the very definition of magic。”These collected tales offer new insight into characters and hidden moments that readers didn’t necessarily get to experience during the original trilogy。 We see the mourning that followed the death of Ghassan‘s first wife; the congenial start to Ghassan and Hatset’s marriage; the pure and wholesome chance encounter that eventually begets Nahri; and so much more。 We experience Jamshid’s loyalty, Zaynab’s courage, Ghassan’s thoughtfulness, Manizeh ”Daevabad had seemed the very definition of magic。”These collected tales offer new insight into characters and hidden moments that readers didn’t necessarily get to experience during the original trilogy。 We see the mourning that followed the death of Ghassan‘s first wife; the congenial start to Ghassan and Hatset’s marriage; the pure and wholesome chance encounter that eventually begets Nahri; and so much more。 We experience Jamshid’s loyalty, Zaynab’s courage, Ghassan’s thoughtfulness, Manizeh’s humanity, and Daevabad’s magic anew。 For sure, you’d have to be familiar with the series already in order to appreciate this book。 I’d even say that, not only do you need to have read the first three books in order, but probably fairly recently。 There are so many characters and plot lines referenced here, so if it’s been a while since you left the world of Daevabad, you might appreciate a refresher before diving back in。 Admittedly, The River of Silver isn’t a necessary component of the Daevabad series。 It is entirely possible to fall in love with the story and the characters, and to experience the fullness of Chakraborty’s unparalleled fantasy world, by only reading the original trilogy。 This book is like the bonus content that they used to include on purchased DVDs - something extra special to enhance the experience, for you to enjoy if you’d like to, but choosing not to partake will in no way diminish the basics。I loved this, simply because the Daevabad series is my favorite fantasy series to have ever been written, and any extra dose of Daeva/Nahid magic is a home run for me。 All of the original characters were well-represented, and even the villains are humanized in new, moving ways。 Five whole-hearted stars!---A huge thank you to S。A。 Chakraborty, Harper Voyager, and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review! 。。。more

It’s four stars if you’ve read the trilogy that this fills in the corners for。 If you haven’t read the trilogy it’d be a bad place to start。 She’s an excellent author on the more literary end of the father’s genre and would be a solid choice if you don’t usually read fantasy but want to try some。 I look forward to seeing more from this author and I hope she has ideas for new stories in different worlds。

This review is based on an advance reader copy。I have to admit when I received this ARC, I had never heard of Daevabad, but I'm always down for a good new fantasy series。 And wow am I glad I found out about this one! Such a perfect reunion with our trio & key side characters。 I loved returning back to this world, getting glimpses into not only how things pan out after Empire of Gold, but also getting richer details that feed and further color in and flesh out Dara, Ali, and Nahri along the three books。 I also feel that this successfully filled both the fan fervor for certain side character favorites, but also gave us another layer to some of the more controversial characters。 As always, Chakraborty doesn’t m Such a perfect reunion with our trio & key side characters。 I loved returning back to this world, getting glimpses into not only how things pan out after Empire of Gold, but also getting richer details that feed and further color in and flesh out Dara, Ali, and Nahri along the three books。 I also feel that this successfully filled both the fan fervor for certain side character favorites, but also gave us another layer to some of the more controversial characters。 As always, Chakraborty doesn’t make it easy to make any damning indictments over anyone — there’s always layers and reasons, even if the actions are those we don’t agree with。 The last POV and chapter definitely gave me some warm tingly feelings, so much so I wish it had made it into the original trilogy, but in a way that I also appreciate having to wait for it and letting us fill in our own thoughts before sharing Chakraborty’s。 Will any amount of extra content like this satisfy us fans? Probably not, but this felt like such a gift。 I also loved seeing Chakraborty’s note at the beginning, sharing with us her vulnerability, especially in such moments in time that found all of us lost and anxious, yearning for stories。 。。。more

I love the world that Chakraborty created in City of Brass and The River of Silver lets me revel in the world for just a little longer。 I suggest reading the original trilogy before reading this collection of short stories as some of the stories are better when you understand the characters and world。 Very beautiful。

River of Silver is precisely what it says on the tin。 It is a simple collection of outtakes from the universe of Daevabad trilogy。 It is less a collection of short stories and more just scenes that were cut out of the published works for one reason or another。 Which is by no means to say these were bad。 It was just difficult to find a thread that gave a reason to this work getting published。 there was not any new world building or a common theme that I would have expected from a short story coll River of Silver is precisely what it says on the tin。 It is a simple collection of outtakes from the universe of Daevabad trilogy。 It is less a collection of short stories and more just scenes that were cut out of the published works for one reason or another。 Which is by no means to say these were bad。 It was just difficult to find a thread that gave a reason to this work getting published。 there was not any new world building or a common theme that I would have expected from a short story collection。 It also makes it difficult to present a firm review as there is no real plot or driving force behind the stories at large。 But taken as a group of scenes cut from the books these were perfectly presentable。 I had a good enough time going through each of them。 。。。more
